“Among these children, there are 26,770 children in victim situations, 1,294 in difficult situations and 7,394 in conflict with the law,” he said at the opening of a national meeting devoted to monitoring the implementation of results of the National Conference on the protection of children in contact with the law.
He noted that these children all benefited from listening and support and were referred to legal, social, psychological, health or other services.
He stressed that prosecutors strive to activate their role of coordination between the various governmental and non-governmental stakeholders and civil society, through local and regional committees for the protection of women and children, in order to ensure coordination and complementarity of services in the best interest of this category.
Mr. Daki added that in order to unify and improve the performance of prosecutors at the national level, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has issued several circulars urging judges to strengthen the legal protection of children against all types of violence, exploitation , abuse and neglect.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office has also endeavored to remove children from all situations which are harmful to them or which may harm their dignity, while ensuring that the law is strictly applied to anyone who commits criminal acts against them. and that the perpetrators of these acts do not go unpunished, he detailed.
Likewise, the judicial official noted that Morocco’s penal policy places issues relating to children among its main strategic priorities, noting that the Public Prosecutor’s Office attaches particular importance to this category by ensuring that all the powers conferred on it by law are activated to ensure the necessary protection against all forms of exploitation, violations and abuse.
“Morocco’s achievements reflect a firm conviction of the centrality of the situation of children and a strong desire to promote them, as evidenced by Morocco’s signing of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the same year of its publication, which constituted a clear call to intensify national efforts to promote and protect the rights of the child,” noted the president of the Public Ministry.
Mr. Daki noted that over the last two decades, the Kingdom, in accordance with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI expressed in numerous Messages and Speeches, has made significant progress in the promotion of rights and the situation of children, whether in terms of physical and moral protection, or in terms of improving their economic, social and cultural conditions.
The King’s Attorney General at the Court of Cassation recalled that the protection of children’s rights is of particular interest to HRH Princess Lalla Meryem, President of the National Observatory of Children’s Rights (ONDE) and President of the National Union of Moroccan Women (UNFM), noting the attachment of Her Royal Highness to supporting projects with a social and development dimension aimed at improving the living conditions of children, based on Her firm conviction that children embody the hope and future of the country.
Morocco has adopted a legislative approach aimed at ensuring comprehensive prevention and protection of children, he added, noting that various national legislative texts have enshrined this approach through the promulgation of several legal provisions aimed at ensuring effective protection. children in contact with the law and to put in place support mechanisms.
“This has constituted one of the most important components of promoting the situation of children and has contributed to the building of a justice system adapted to children which ensures easy and effective access to them, whatever their status. , whether they are victims, in conflict with the law, in difficult situations, abandoned, witnesses or migrant children,” argued Mr. Daki.
Organized by the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and with the support of the European Union, this two-day meeting includes plenary sessions during which the state of locations of the different stages, as well as the most important issues and challenges related to childhood issues.
