Bulgarian world-class tennis star Grigor Dimitrov is known for the ease with which he executes trick shots. He agreed to comment on some of his most famous performances, selected by the ATP.
“We start with the match against Andy (Murray) in Acapulco. One of the scariest plays you’ll ever see. At one point I thought I had won the point, but I didn’t. I kept running and chasing the ball. I think he lost faith after that point. I also remember that after the match I passed out and they had to take me to the hospital,” said the former world No.3.
In Monte Carlo, the performance was a short smash ball against Holger Rune.
“Oh, the overhead kick. I’m not sure if we’ll see anything like that again – a 5km/h hit like that – but the play was very, very long. I remember we exchanged a lot of hard punches and at one point I thought I should do something different. I placed an overhead kick but he got to the ball. I didn’t want to do it again because my shoulder was already getting tired, so I decided to get creative.”
Of course, the compilation also includes both shots against Jack Sock in Stockholm in 2014.
“God, how young I look! Some players are still talking about these shots,” said Dimitrov.
Today, the former No. 3 in the world has to play his Wimbledon Round 2 match against Shang Junchen (Keith).
