The Guinean Consumer Union (UCG) made public yesterday, Saturday, July 20, 2024, a survey conducted in various Guinean markets to see first-hand what is happening there. This survey reveals that certain consumer products are priced fancifully, in violation of current regulations.

According to the president of the Consumers Union of Guinea, Ousmane Keïta, after this observation they found that there was abuse in the fixing of prices. “We were surprised in the context of the investigation that we are currently conducting on the prices of products in the markets, that some traders were abusing in the fixing of prices and even deceiving consumers,” he regrets.

As an example, Ousmane Keïta points out this: “While the Bama mayonnaise widely consumed by the population is supposed to be sold at 30,000 for the medium format commonly called Bama 30, the company even made posters and radio advertising to communicate the good news, unfortunately, we found unscrupulous traders who still sell it at 35,000, thus sabotaging the efforts of the Bama company. We will return to the subject with many cases that we have observed.”

Pending a favorable outcome, the Consumers’ Union of Guinea appeals to certain hierarchical managers in these terms: “we therefore launch an appeal to traders, that we do not hesitate to contact the competent services of the national directorate of internal trade through its control agents to denounce this type of behavior but also of the National Office of Quality Control for products whose date has expired. We also launch an appeal to consumers so that they do the same. Let us be citizens to the end”, we can note among other things in this press release.
