SEOUL, January 30, 2026 — Postpartum hair loss is a surprisingly common experience, and one that singer Son dam Bi recently shared with her fans. The star revealed her struggles with significant hair shedding in a new YouTube video posted today, January 30, detailing how she navigated the issue and restored her hair’s volume.
A Common Postpartum challenge
Approximately 50-90% of women experience postpartum hair loss, typically peaking around four months after delivery.
“When I’m filming, I usually lightly style my hair, but today I only washed it,†Son Dam Bi explained in the video, titled “Son Dam Bi – What I Couldn’t Say Until Now… Finally Confessing Postpartum Hair Loss.†She added that she previously had thick, voluminous hair and hadn’t worried about shedding before. “People say hair starts falling out about 100 days after giving birth, but I didn’t think much of it. Then it started falling out so much that even my husband became worried.â€
The hair loss became quite dramatic, with Son Dam Bi describing finding hair all over her bed and clogged shower drains. Initially, she didn’t stress over it, but a visit to the hair salon revealed the extent of the problem. “The stylist told me my hair looked noticeably thin. I was shocked,†she recalled. “My crown, part, and hairline all thinned out a lot.Can you see it now? it’s all grown back, but at the time I couldn’t believe hair could fall out like that.â€
Resolute to address the issue, Son Dam Bi tried a variety of remedies. “I tried black beans, different shampoos and treatments, and eventually scalp ampoules. I’m not exaggerating when I say they worked really well,†she said. “Now, eight months later, my hair is full again, but back then it was shockingly sparse.â€
She also highlighted a specific product she used, explaining that it “delivers protein directly to the scalp,†strengthening hair roots and considerably reducing hair loss. She noted her hair also became much stronger consequently.
What causes postpartum hair loss? It’s typically a result of declining estrogen levels after childbirth, which can cause hair to enter a resting phase and eventually shed. While alarming, this type of hair loss is usually temporary, and hair growth typically resumes within six to 12 months.
