Son Heung-min (32), who visited his home country of Korea for a friendly match with his team Tottenham Hotspur, is attracting attention by showing up at the airport wearing the new Galaxy Watch product ‘Galaxy Watch Ultra’ announced by Samsung Electronics this month. Samsung Electronics has been promoting major Galaxy products with Son Heung-min since July of last year, when it selected him as a ‘Galaxy Ambassador’.

Tottenham Hotspur, which is on an Asian tour including Korea and Japan during the pre-season, visited Incheon International Airport on the afternoon of the 28th to play a friendly match with ‘Team K League’ and others. The airport was packed with people waiting to meet Tottenham’s key players who are playing for prestigious English Premier League (EPL) clubs, including Son Heung-min. Son Heung-min, along with key players including James Maddison (28), responded to the fans’ welcome by unfurling the Taegeukgi (Korean national flag). In particular, the ‘Galaxy Watch Ultra’ worn by Son Heung-min caught the eye. This is the new Galaxy Watch product that Samsung Electronics released along with the ‘Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6’ on the 10th (local time).

Last July, Son Heung-min drew attention when he was seen at Incheon International Airport departing wearing Samsung Electronics’ ‘Galaxy Watch 6’ before its release. There was speculation that the product Son Heung-min was wearing was a new model scheduled to be unveiled at the new product launch event ‘Unpacked’ that same month, and Samsung Electronics confirmed that this was true.

Samsung Electronics is focusing on ‘star marketing’ including Son Heung-min. Samsung Electronics, an official sponsor of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), released the list of ‘Team Samsung Galaxy’ players as ambassadors for the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games earlier this year.

Team Samsung Galaxy includes 25 athletes from 10 countries around the world representing various sports. A total of six athletes were selected from South Korea: Son Heung-min, Kim Ye-ri (breaking), Kim Hee-jin (goalball), Seo Chae-hyun (sports climbing), Shin Yu-bin (table tennis), and Ahn Se-young (badminton). At the actual Paris Olympics, the company also distributed 17,000 Galaxy Z Flip 6 Olympic Edition units to the athletes.
