Tottenham Hotspur lose 0-1 to Arsenal in North London derby
Son Heung-min (32), captain of Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League (EPL), made a regretful and determined comment, saying, “We dominated the game but lost because of a set piece.”

Son Heung-min, who had to play full-time and watch his team lose, said in an interview with British media outlet Sky Sports, “We dominated the game but conceded a goal from a set piece. Last season, we conceded two goals from set pieces, and today we lost from a set piece.” He bowed his head, saying, “To be honest, it was a very painful result. I think the fans were very disappointed as well.”
He continued, “We have to improve 100% and move forward again. It’s a tough time, but we have to believe more and stick together. In particular, we have to be more responsible for our goal decisions.”
Meanwhile, Nick Wright, a panelist for Sky Sports, also expressed his opinion that set pieces were the deciding factor in the match, saying, “Tottenham manager Anje Postecoglou’s biggest weakness, set pieces, were Arsenal’s greatest strength.”
Tottenham have conceded 18 goals from set pieces since last season when manager Postecoglou took over.
This is the second highest figure in the EPL during the same period, behind Nottingham Forest (23 goals).
Amid growing criticism about the lack of set pieces, Coach Postecoglou explained, “For some reason, people think I’m not interested in set pieces. But we prepare well for set pieces just like other teams.”
He added, “We were able to hold on well but failed to get results because of one goal conceded. However, we are continuing to learn.”
