Umran Malik’s father Abdul Rashid is running a fruit shop in Gujju Nagar, Jammu, while Umran Malik is shaking world class players by bowling 150 kmph in the IPL. But now there is a small difference. The old shop that used to be named after Rashid is now known as Umran’s father’s old shop! It was during these eventful 5 years that Umran grew from nothing to the pace of India’s fastest pace bowler! Although his son is a superstar, his father Abdul Rashid says he has no intention of stopping the antiques business that has been providing income to the family for a long time.
In the match against Gujarat Titans, the speed of a ball bouncing from Umran’s hands was 153.3 kmph. The next 2 balls were 151.2 and 150.1 respectively. The Kiwis’ fastest pacer, Loki Fergus, was overtaken by Umran, who bowled the fastest five balls of the match.
Umran is a player who went to the Jammu Under-19 team selection trials with borrowed shoes (Spikes). He was later named in the state team but only got a chance to play in the Vinu Mankad Trophy. The rain came down as the villain in the match. The following year, the Under-23 team went to the selection trials but did not get a chance in the team.
Umran made his debut in the 2019–20 Ranji season when Assam coach Ajay Ratra searched the netballs ahead of the Jammu and Kashmir-Assam match. Umran is the 4th player to play in the IPL from Jammu and Kashmir. Umran also holds the record for the fastest Indian bowler in the IPL. Hyderabad retained Umran for Rs 4 crore.
