“The body had no identification and it was only at the end of the afternoon that it was discovered that it was Gustavo Carvalho, a young Mechanical Engineering student at FCTUC, born in Madeira. From what was possible to ascertain, the young man, who lived in Solum, had I was at a birthday dinner in Baixa. In the middle of the night, he felt unwell and slept, alone, in the house of some colleagues who live on Rua Ferreira Borges, from where he accidentally fell into the aforementioned courtyard. When his colleagues, in the early hours of the morning, arrived home, they found that the friend had woken up and gone home. They weren’t even surprised by the police apparatus in the area. Only in the afternoon, given the various reports reporting the death of a 20-year-old young man, did they realize that it could be Gustavo, which would later be confirmed.”

The tragedy generated consternation in the academic community, because the young man was very loved.
