BANGKOK – In a shocking development, the son of Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho Aguirre has been detained in Thailand in connection with the death and dismemberment of a Colombian man on the popular tourist island of Koh Phangan. The Thai police confirmed the news on Monday.

The suspect, identified as Daniel Sancho Bronchal, appeared before a court on Monday as the police sought his continued detention for investigation. Police Major General Saranyu Chamnanrat provided details of the case to Reuters.

The investigation revealed that Sancho had traveled to seven different locations, including a beach where he allegedly dumped plastic bags containing body parts of the victim, Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta Arteaga, aged 44.

Sancho, aged 29, is facing charges of premeditated murder, as well as concealing and removing body parts to cover up the death or the cause of death of the victim, according to Saranyu.

Daniel Sancho, who works as a chef, is the son of the famous Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho and actress Silvia Bronchalo. He was in Thailand on holiday, as reported by the media.

In a statement released by the family on Sunday, they asked for “maximum respect, both for Daniel Sancho himself and for the whole family, in these delicate moments of maximum confusion.”

Sancho was arrested shortly after body parts were discovered at a landfill on Koh Phangan, a popular destination known for its ‘full moon’ parties. The suspect has reportedly confessed to the crime, according to the police.

The police have conducted DNA tests on the remains, confirming them to be of Arrieta’s. They also claim to have additional evidence against Sancho.

CCTV footage, shown by local broadcaster ThaiPBS, revealed that Sancho and Arrieta were together on a motorcycle days before the discovery of the remains.

The investigation is ongoing as the Thai authorities continue their search for the rest of Arrieta’s remains.
