The co-director of Sónar Ricard Robles stated in a press conference this Saturday that “it has been a very good edition, in line with the best years of the festival”, with figures only surpassed by those of 2018, “which was an exceptional year because it commemorated the 25th anniversary “.

He has also celebrated the rise of Spanish publicwhich was normally 55% and this year has been 70%, and which demonstrates “the real commitment that the festival has with the territory and the city”.

The festival’s commitment to local talent has also influenced this growth, with prominent names in the program, such as C. Tangana, Nathy Peluso, Arca, El Niño de Elche, Maria Arnal and Marcel Bagés, Samantha Hudson, Pastís Relena, Rojuu, Habiteu, Ms Nina and Simona, among others.

The directors have announced that they are already working on the organization of the next edition, in which Sónar will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a special program that will take place on June 15, 16 and 17 of 2023.

Overall, Sónar has presented 180 activities this year, including concerts and conferences, which have been marked “by the cultural diversity led by women from the five continents and by the excellence of local talent”, according to co-director Enric Palau.

“Sónar 2022 was not the Sónar 2019 that we could not do – he clarified – but a renewed event, in which new shoots and new species have appeared that have contributed their stylistic and format novelties.”

In this line, Sergi Caballero highlighted the performance of Rojuu, which attracted new generations of audiences to the festival last Thursday, and Enric Palau highlighted the proposals of Lady Shaka and the Portuguese of Angolan origin Poso, examples of diversity cultural starring women.

The largest influx of people took place on Friday night at the Fira Gran Via, in which 34,000 people sold out, attracted by the performances of C. Tangana, Nathy Peluso, Moderate and The Blaze, among many others.

As for the torrid diurnal days, which this year have been marked by the heat wave, on Thursday a little more than 13,000 people came, you see 14,000 and today 16,000, which adds up to a total close to 44,000 day attendants.

In the night concerts the overall figure has been 78,000 attendees, “in line with the last 15 years before the covid, in which we have found a balance that allows the public to comfortably enjoy the concerts.”

Robles also referred to SonarExtra, a tour of the center of Barcelona, ​​with proposals such as the hyperorgan of the Palau Güell and the sound installations of the Hotel M’i in the Fundació Antoni Tàpies, and said that his The intention is to invite more spaces in the city to collaborate with Sónar in the next edition of the thirtieth anniversary.

For this celebration, Robles also wants to strengthen Sónar D, the parallel event dedicated to the application of science and technology in art, which “is becoming more and more integrated into Sónar by Day”, so that the public has easy access to both the music and the reflection that is generated around it.

“We are an important asset of the city and we will reach its thirtieth anniversary in full form and with the desire to continue contributing innovation and reflection, which will help make Barcelona the capital of digital culture,” he concluded.
