The Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan has yielded results with the investment of 22 billion dollars in the installation of natural gas plants in Puerto Libertad and Guaymas, which represents the generation of more than 30 thousand direct and indirect jobs, three years into the administration of Governor Alfonso Durazo, showing that Sonora’s time is now, with these projects that place the entity at the forefront of economic and energy development at a national level.

The head of the state Executive explained that both projects represent the largest private energy investment in Mexico and position Sonora as a world leader in the use of sustainable energy, while also encouraging the arrival of new foreign investments.

“This investment means more and better jobs, which translate into a better quality of life for the people of Sonora,” he emphasized.

The Saguaro Energy Natural Gas Liquefaction Plant, a gas pipeline between Texas and Sonora, to be built by the US company Mexico Pacific, with an investment of 15 billion dollars, installed in the town of Puerto Libertad, Pitiquito, will have a production capacity of 14 million tons per year (mtpa) with plans to grow to 28.2 mtpa of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for long-term delivery to consumers in Asia and a new gas pipeline.

The plant in Guaymas has an investment of around 6.8 billion dollars in two construction stages by the company Amigo LNG, which contemplates the production of liquefied gas originating in Texas destined for India, Indonesia, Japan and Korea, which will allow the development of the Port of Guaymas as the exit point towards the Pacific.

With the initiatives that make up the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan and the arrival of new investments, trade between Mexico and the United States is increasing, where the state contributes to the decarbonization of the world economy.
