Abu Daqqa is Palestinian, but his wife and four children have been living in Flanders for five years after fleeing Palestine. His family and friends gathered at their home in Scherpenheuvel-Zichem. They are in shock and want to sue Israel before the International Criminal Court.

Zain, the cameraman’s 15-year-old son, called him last. He tells this in the coat his father wore when he came to Belgium. “It smells like him,” the young man told ‘VTM NIEUWS’. “My father had done nothing wrong,” sighs his 18-year-old brother Yazan. “He was just filming. He was a journalist.”

Samer Abu Daqqa was seriously injured while reporting at a school in the town of Khan Younis. It took more than five hours before help arrived because the ambulance was not allowed through. He didn’t make it. His colleague who was with him survived. He is the journalist who not long ago found out live on television that his family had been killed after a bombing raid on his house.
