Sony and Lego invest in Metaverse

by time news

Japanese giant Sony Corporation and the Danish parent company of Lego Corporation announced today, Monday, a $2 billion investment in the powerful American game company Epic Games to support its work to join the virtual world of Metaverse.

Dozens of technology companies have rushed to invest in building “Metaverse”, a loose term that covers the growing ecosystem of interactive online worlds, 3D gaming and meeting places that already attracts millions of users.

And in the form of video games like Fortnite, metaverses really do exist in a simplified way, where people come together not only to play, but also to interact and participate in events.

The three companies said in a joint statement that “Sony”, originally a shareholder in “Epic Games”, and “Kirkby”, the parent company of “Lego”, decided to invest one billion dollars each.

“The three companies highly value both creators and gamers, and aim to create new social entertainment that explores the relationship between the digital and physical worlds,” she added.

Epic Games said the investment would raise the value of the US game studio to $31.5 billion.

With 350 million users worldwide, Fortnite is free to download, but it generates billions in revenue through players buying additional items for their characters, including clothing.

The game quickly became such a global phenomenon that some sessions of the game are now watched by millions of viewers.
