Sony has announced the Xperia 5 IV, the annual update to the company’s compact phone. The phone comes with a 6.1-inch OLED display, a resolution of 1080×2520 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Sony claims that this screen is about 50% brighter than the previous model.

The camera setup has also been upgraded, and now relies on three cameras, all with a 12-megapixel sensor. For the first a wide lens, for the second a super wide lens, while the third camera comes with a telephoto lens that offers a zoom of X2.5. All cameras are capable of shooting video in 4K resolution and at a rate of up to 120 frames per second, and according to Sony are equipped with the fastest and highest quality automatic nheus in the industry. The front selfie camera has also been equipped with its own 12-megapixel sensor.

Although the size of the device is almost the same as the Xperia 5 III, Sony managed to increase the battery by 10% to a capacity of 5,000 mAh. This is also the first model in the series that supports wireless charging, as well as fast charging with a power of up to 30 watts. A charger, of course, is not included in the package.

The rest of the specifications look familiar for a flagship device: Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset alongside 8 GB of working memory and 128 GB for file storage. The device is water resistant to the IP68 standard, and comes with a pair of speakers and support for virtual surround sound in the Dolby Atmos standard. Sony did not give up the standard headphone connection, and there is an expansion slot for microSD cards, two features that disappear from other flagship devices. The protective glass on the front and back is of the Gorilla Glass Victus type.

The Xperia 5 IV will be launched in Europe and the United States next month, at a price of 999 dollars. You can choose between black, green and white colors.
