Sony Unveils New Flagship Sensor for Phone Cameras

Sony has announced its new flagship sensor for phone cameras, the LYT-900, from the company’s advanced Lytia sensor family. The 1-inch, 50-megapixel sensor with 1.6µm pixels is believed to be an upgrade over Sony’s IMX989, which was used by high-end phones last year.

Three flagship phones are already known to integrate the new sensor into their photography setup. The Oppo Find X7 Pro, slated to be launched in the first two months of 2024, will be the first to feature the LYT-900. Next in line is the Vivo X100, expected to hit the market in May, followed by the Xiaomi 14 Ultra version, which is set to be released around June 2024.

According to Sony, the LYT-900 will provide “excellent tonal expressions” as the top layer of the company’s Lytia sensors. The announcement marks a significant development in phone camera technology, promising improved image quality and performance for users.
