by time news

Almost two years after announcing its intention to launch new virtual reality glasses for the PlayStation 5 console, Sony is releasing the final launch details. The PlayStation VR2 will have an international launch on February 22, 2023. Its price in the US will be 549.99 dollars, and in Europe 599.99 euros. Regarding Israel, there are still no further details regarding the price, although the PlayStation 5 console itself was launched locally on the same date as the European one.

The PlayStation VR2 kit includes, apart from the virtual reality glasses themselves, a single VR2 Sense control controller, and stereo headphones. Sony will also sell a kit that includes the launch game Horizon Call of the Mountain, and a dedicated accessory to charge the wireless controller.

The pre-sale is expected to start on November 15. In countries where Sony operates an online store, the PlayStation VR2 will be exclusive to that store. In total, Sony promises a selection of over 20 games on launch day, including the action game Crossfire: Sierra Squad, a virtual reality edition of the city management game Cities, and a survival game set in Jurassic Park – Jurassic World Aftermath.

As for the virtual reality glasses themselves, let’s recall that these are equipped with a pair of OLED screens with a resolution of 2000×2040 pixels for each eye, and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. Unlike the original PS VR, the PlayStation VR2 connects to the PlayStation 5 console via a single USB-C cable, and the glasses have their own vibration motor. Sony promises a more ergonomic and comfortable design, and alongside the improved performance of the PlayStation 5 console itself, a significantly upgraded experience is guaranteed. According to reports, Sony plans to make 2 million units of the PlayStation VR2 ahead of launch.
