Sony has announced an external cooling accessory that turns the Xperia 1 into a gaming device

by time news

Sony invited its customers in Japan this morning (Monday) to a special announcement related to gaming and the Xperia mobile brand, but those who expected to see a new gaming device were in for a not necessarily happy surprise: Sony’s big announcement is nothing less than a cooling accessory called the Xperia Stream, which connects for the Xperia 1 IV device.

The Xperia Stream includes a powerful fan, capable of responding automatically to the temperature of the device, and can also be controlled through a dedicated application. On its lower side, the accessory includes four different connections: a headphone connection, an HDMI input, a network input (Ethernet) and a USB-C input. This way you can connect the Xperia 1 IV via the Stream to external screens, while the device itself is also connected to the charger and continues to cool itself. However, the resolution when connected to the TV is limited to 1080p, with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.

Sony is convinced that the Xperia 1 IV and the Xperia Stream together become the perfect gaming device, and even announce a collaboration with the mobile action game PUBG Mobile, as an “official partner” for the launch. Sony also announced the Xperia 1 IV Gaming Edition with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage.

The price of the accessory was not disclosed during the event, although Sony did clarify that they intend to both sell it separately, and to sell it in a package that also includes the Xperia 1 IV device itself. Since the device itself is sold for $1,599, there is no reason to think that the package that also includes the Xperia Stream will be particularly cheap.
