Sony has sold more than 20 million PlayStation 5 consoles

It is still very difficult to buy a PlayStation 5 in Israel. Its inventory is still irregular. But this is not just a local problem. All over the world the console is ‘snatched’ from sales sites and physical stores. Despite this, more than 20 million consoles have already reached customers, and with this milestone celebration Sony promises to significantly increase production this year.

A statement from the company said: “We are excited to share that Sony’s interactive entertainment division has sold more than 20 million PlayStation 5 consoles worldwide. Our teams are working tirelessly to provide the next generation console that has conquered the world and we want to thank fans for their support.”

This is a nice statistic but still reflects the painful issue of availability. For comparison, the PlayStation 4, the company’s previous console, reached the same amount of sales in a shorter time because it did not suffer from low availability like the PlayStation 5. The main reason for the lack of Sony’s coveted game console is the global chip shortage that hit the entire industry.

“For fans who have not yet been able to get their hands on a console, please know that we intend to significantly increase production this year to ensure the console is available to every buyer,” the company added.
