Sony Reverses Decision on Deleting Discovery Content from PlayStation Libraries

In response to fan backlash, Sony has announced that it will no longer be deleting Discovery content from PlayStation libraries. The decision comes after a wave of backlash from users who were upset about the planned removal of purchased content.

In a statement, Sony revealed that it has struck an “updated licensing agreement” with Discovery owner Warner Bros. This agreement ensures that previously purchased content will remain accessible for at least the next 30 months. Sony’s legal website has also been updated to reassure users that the planned content removal for 31st December 2023 will no longer be occurring.

“We appreciate your ongoing support and feedback,” Sony said in a statement addressing the issue.

Previously, PlayStation owners had received emails informing them that some Discovery content would become inaccessible from 1st January 2024 onwards, even if it was content that they had bought and paid for. This announcement had sparked outrage among users who felt that their purchased content was being unfairly taken away.

The planned removal of Discovery content was set to affect hundreds of TV shows and movies, though some users have expressed that they were not particularly interested in the affected content. Regardless, the reversal of Sony’s decision has been welcomed by fans and is seen as a positive move towards ensuring that users have continued access to the content they have purchased.
