Sony has launched two new professional handheld cameras, the PXW-Z200 and HXR-NX800, both equipped with a 1-inch sensor, Sony G lens, and AI focusing system, supporting 4K 120fps recording.

Sony has recently introduced two handheld cameras tailored for professional shooting needs, namely the PXW-Z200 belonging to the XDCAM line and the HXR-NX800 from the NXCAM line. Both models adopt a high zoom capability built-in Sony G lens and use a 1-inch Exmor RS CMOS sensor with 14 million effective pixels, paired with the BIONZ XR image processor, featuring AI recognition focus shooting functionality.

The two handheld cameras are primarily designed for professional shooting requirements, such as those of television stations, and are based on a twin model design, with the main difference being the specifications of the connection terminals, where the PXW-Z200 additionally offers SDI and TC connection terminals.

Both cameras are equipped with a built-in Sony G lens that has an equivalent focal length of 24-280mm F2.8-F4.5, achieving a zoom ratio of up to 20 times. They also feature active image stabilization to ensure stable images during handheld shooting while reducing the shooting angle. Additionally, smooth focal length adjustments can be made through the zoom mechanism on the lens, and they come with built-in ND filters ranging from 1/4 to 1/128.

The built-in AI focusing system utilizes Sony’s new generation of skeletal analysis technology, which can continue to focus on the subject even if temporarily obstructed by buildings or other obstacles during the tracking process, resuming focus as soon as the subject reappears. Additionally, the shooting format can support up to 4K 120fps video.

The bodies are compactly designed, featuring a side-flipping touch LCD screen for filming monitoring, while also allowing for the operation of specific shooting functions. The microphone mount can be removed as needed to reduce the handheld camera’s weight. Storage media is accomplished through two sets of SDXC cards and one CFexpress Type A memory card for storing shooting content, and the cameras also include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and wired network connectivity to support streaming playback requirements like RTMP/S and SRT. Other ports include USB-C and HDMI output.

As for the suggested retail prices, the PXW-Z200 will be sold in the Japanese market for 649,000 yen, while the recommended price for the HXR-NX800 is 506,000 yen.
