The start of the dialogue between the Ministry of National Defense and the new municipal authority for the concession of the camp of Velissario to the Municipality of Ioannito is announced by the Speaker of the Parliament, Kostas Tasoulas.
Mr. Tasoulas today received in his office the Deputy Minister of National Defense Ioannis Kefalogiannis, responsible for issues of utilization of the real estate of the Armed Forces, in order to inform him about issues of his competence, with the issue of the concession of the Velissario camp being at the forefront of interest. “The Ministry of National Defense will soon start consultations with the new municipal authority of Ioannina, in order to find the mutually optimal solution for the issue of the Velissari camp, given the agreement of the GES for the release of most of the camp. The office of the deputy minister has already contacted the office of the mayor Thomas Bega for this purpose”, states a press release from the office of the President of the Parliament.
There was also a discussion about the creation of the History Park in Kalpaki, with the aim of developing military tourism in the wider region. As it became known, the memorandum of cooperation for the development of military tourism in Kalpaki will soon be signed between the Municipality of Pogoni and the Ministry of National Defense, given that from April 15 the final plan was submitted to the Ministry and its final preparation is expected soon . Mr. Tasoulas thanked I. Kefalogiannis for the information and requested that the procedures for both issues proceed at an efficient pace and in a spirit of cooperation with the self-governing bodies.
Update on the excavation at the Parliament of Dodoni
The President of the Parliament received, also today, in his office the honorary curator of Antiquities, Varvara Papadopoulou, who directs the systematic excavation in the Parliament of Dodoni, head of the research team. As is well known, this excavation is financed by the Hellenic Parliament. Ms. Papadopoulou informed Mr. Tasoula about the work done so far, about the new configuration work in the building’s portico, about the completion of the architectural and static preliminary study, about the restoration of the Parliament and the digital representations of this important and emblematic monument of the wider archaeological site of Dodoni.
Mr. Tasoulas congratulated Mrs. Papadopoulou and the research team, providing the assurance that the Parliament will continue its assistance, so that soon, thanks to the partial restoration of the building and the configuration of its interior, it can be understood by the visitors its original function.
