CHENNAI: The Department of Housing and Urban Development has launched the works of new urban development groups in Trichy and Salem.
Chennai is the only city in Tamil Nadu that has a Metropolitan Development Corporation. Similarly, it was decided to set up new committees for planning work in cities like Trichy, Madurai, Coimbatore.
In the first phase, steps were taken to set up new urban development groups for the cities of Madurai, Coimbatore, Tirupur and Hosur. These groups are expected to start functioning soon.
In this case, the government announced that ‘in Trichy and Salem, new urban development groups will be established’. Officials are preparing to carry out the work for this.
Urban planning experts said: Madurai, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Hosur Urban Development Committees have been established to function independently like the Chennai Metropolitan Development Committee (CMDA).
Following this, an announcement regarding the formation of new groups for Trichy and Salem will be released soon. Thus, these groups will function as a separate administrative body without the control of the Urban Development Department. Thus they said.
