It has been revealed that singer and child actor Lee Gun-ju (43), who was loved for his role as Soon-dol in the 1990s drama ‘Three Families Under One Roof’, received a divine revelation and became a shaman.

According to a report by Maeil Kyungjae Star Today on the 6th, Lee Gun-ju became a shaman after receiving a ritual from the father of the gods, Kang Nam-do Won-seon, at a shaman shrine in Hanam, Gyeonggi Province on the 2nd. It is said that he became the ‘new sibling’ with shaman Ham Soo-hyun, a former bank employee who appeared on the SBS entertainment program ‘Possessed Romance’.

In a phone call with Maeil Business Newspaper’s Star Today, Lee Geon-ju revealed the reason he received the divine possession, saying, “I had been hearing for a long time why I wasn’t receiving it,” and “I ignored it and endured it, but then I got a spiritual illness.”

Lee Geon-ju said that he had been suffering from severe depression since last year and had stopped working. He said that he had been possessed by a spirit despite his family’s opposition.

The family had long sensed something unusual about Lee Gun-ju, but they tried to pretend not to notice. In particular, it is said that the greatest opposition came from his aunt, who had raised Lee Gun-ju since he was six years old after his parents’ divorce.

Lee Geon-ju said, “My aunt who raised me was also destined to be possessed by a god, but she refused it and lived her whole life thinking of my nephew who plays the role of ‘Soondol’.” She cried a lot, saying, “It seemed like it came to me.”

Then, Lee Geon-ju confessed that his family was originally a family of shamans. His great-grandmother was a shaman, and his grandfather built temples and performed rituals. Lee Geon-ju, a Buddhist, would occasionally go to temples to pray. However, he heard that “this child is now full of hair” and “if he doesn’t accept it, he will be in big trouble,” and he decided to accept his fate.

Lee Geon-ju also expressed his desire to pursue entertainment activities while living the life of a shaman. He appeared on MBN’s trot audition show ‘Voice Trot’ in 2020 and showed off his amazing skills.

He said, “Isn’t this a time when there is a great aversion to shamans?” and “I have started a new life, but I want to quietly walk through the two lives that have been given to me.”

Lee Geon-ju debuted in the 1986 MBC drama ‘Preview’. He received much love for his role as ‘Choi Soon-dol’ in ‘Three Families Under One Roof’. After that, he appeared in ‘Bandi’s House’, ‘The Swordsman Oh Soo-jung’, ‘The King and I’, and ‘Jang Ok-jung, Living in Love’.
