Soulja Boy has dramatically shifted his career trajectory, announcing an exclusive partnership with live streaming platform Kick on Tuesday (Jan. 19). The move signals a significant challenge to Twitch’s long-held dominance in the live streaming space and underscores Kick’s aggressive strategy for attracting top talent.
A Bold Move in the Streaming Wars
The rapper’s deal with Kick highlights the platform’s growing appeal to creators seeking more favorable revenue splits.
Soulja Boy confirmed the partnership on X, brandishing his watch while listening to music.
Kick offers a 95 percent subscription revenue split, compared to Twitch’s 50 percent.
The rapper immediately released a freestyle dissing Twitch and celebrating his new deal.
Soulja Boy has been proactively preparing for this move for months, updating his username on Kick in June 2023.
Soulja boy confirmed the news himself on social media, posting a video on X (formerly twitter) with the caption, “I’m live on Kick now 💯”. The post featured a short clip of him listening to music and showing off his watch.
Soulja Boy’s enthusiasm was palpable. “On my momma, I’m the new face of Kick, nia. This my sh*t,” he declared in a clip from a stream posted on his X account Monday evening (Jan. 19). He had already engaged with the platform on jan. 18,hosting a Kick session where he discussed his Ocean Gang era,his history with Lil B,and revisited popular tracks.
During the session, he also mentioned plans to play Fortnite and reacted to a commenter mentioning another streamer, asking, “Who the fk is Osman,” seemingly unaware of any criticism.
This signing represents a major progress in the streaming world, as Kick continues to aggressively recruit high-profile talent, including xQc and Adin Ross. Soulja boy has been laying the groundwork for this move for months, publicly requesting a username change from souljaboydripco to souljaboy on June 18-a request fulfilled the same day.
“The algorithm doesn’t reward potential. It rewards consistency,” he wrote on X, a statement that now appears prescient. Just days before the Kick announcement, on Jan. 15, Soulja Boy invited fans to join him on the Favorited platform, though his new exclusive deal likely precludes a return there.
