Sourav Ganguly Return To Cricket Association Of Bengal President | Sourav Ganguly’s Key Decision After Quitting BCCI

by time news

Four days after former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly decided to step down as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), he has decided to file his candidacy for the post of president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAP). Now that he has turned down the BCCI’s offer to become the IPL president on October 11, his move has come as a surprise. Ganguly himself has confirmed that he will contest the Cricket Association of Bengal elections. He is going to file his nomination on October 22. With this, Ganguly will take office as the Sangh president of his hometown for the second time.

Ganguly will travel to Mumbai on October 18 to hand over the reins to Roger Binny, who will take over as the new BCCI president. Ganguly was the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal from 2015-2019 before becoming the BCCI president. He is eligible to serve four more years in the Cricket Association of Bengal as per the new BCCI constitution. Ahead of the Cricket Association of Bengal elections, Avishek Dalmiya was expected to be replaced by his elder brother Sinekashish Ganguly as the president.

“Ganguly hopes to contribute more to cricket as an administrator. Ganguly wants to work in cricket and help cricketers. He has always been very passionate about the Cricket Association of Bengal. He could not continue as the BCCI president because the board did not encourage one to continue as president for two consecutive terms. But he Now has considerable experience as an administrator,” said a source close to Ganguly.

It was widely speculated that Ganguly could be in the running for the post of International Cricket Council (ICC) president. But the news turned out to be false in the end. On October 18, the board will decide its representative at the ICC. Sources said Secretary Jay Shah will be preferred over incoming chairman Roger Binny. It will be interesting to see if the board even considers a potential candidate from India to contest the ICC polls.
