/ South Africa submitted an urgent request, on Tuesday, to the International Court of Justice in The Hague regarding the attack that Israel threatens to launch on the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

Reuters reported that the South African government has asked the International Court to consider whether Israel’s decision to extend its military operations in Rafah requires the court to use its authority to prevent further violations of Palestinian rights.

Last month, the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to take all measures within its power to prevent its forces from committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, in a case brought by South Africa.

Israel is planning to expand its ground offensive to the city of Rafah, which is home to nearly 1.3 million refugees, in addition to its residents, amid international fears that the attack could lead to a global catastrophe.

On January 26, the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to take measures to prevent genocide against Palestinians and improve the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, but the decision did not include a “ceasefire.”

The decision was issued during a session held by the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Netherlands, to decide on South Africa’s request calling on Tel Aviv to take precautionary measures in the “genocide” lawsuit filed against Israel.
