(Ecofin Company) – The acquisition of tugboats is a part of the emergency program unveiled by the South African authorities to restructure the port and railway industries, a plan that may require about $5.4 billion to modernize ports and railways.

In South Africa, 4 new tugboats had been delivered on 11 June to Transnet Nationwide Ports Authority as a part of this system to strengthen the fleet of machines and tools devoted to development companies serving the port of Durban.

These specialised vessels are a part of an order for 7 tugboats from Damen Shipyards Cape City, the South African department of the Dutch shipbuilder. In response to the technical information revealed final February, they’ve a pulling pressure of 60 tons, not like the outdated ones whose energy varies between 32 and 40 tons.

The order is a part of the 1 billion rand (about USD 53 million) funding program lately introduced by the port authority to exchange the non-operational a part of the fleet, on account of getting old.

This acquisition will complement ongoing packages to revive the picture of South Africa’s major port, and to scale back congestion which has been a hindrance for over a decade.
