West Indies had already secured the series by winning the first two matches. South Africa had a chance to win the last match to make it better. But the Caribbean did not let that happen either. They also defeated the Proteas in the third match of the series. Aiden Markram’s team ended the T20 series with an 8-wicket loss in the Shai Hope storm.

South Africa batted first in a rain-hit match in Trinidad on Tuesday (August 27). The Proteas collected 108 runs for 4 wickets in 13 overs determined by captain Aiden Markram and Tristan Stubbs’ stormy innings. In response, West Indies reached the port of victory in 9.2 overs after losing 2 wickets in the stormy batting of Shai Hope, Nicholas Pooran.

After winning the toss, the two Protea openers Ryan Rickelton and Riza Hendricks started cautiously. But they could not go far. Rain struck in the fifth over of the innings. Then the match was reduced to 13 overs when the rain subsided. Akil Hossain returned Hendricks immediately after the rain. He scored 9 runs off 20 balls.

Rickelton and Markram then tried to score quick runs. Markram scored 20 runs with the help of two sixes and a four off 12 balls. Rickelton scored 27 runs off 24 balls. Then Tristan Stubbs stormed with the bat. After storming the last over of the innings, he was dismissed for 40 runs off 15 balls with five fours and three sixes.

Elik Athanje returned in the first over to reply. Puran stormed at the crease. He returned with 35 runs off 13 balls with two fours and four sixes. Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer stormed the rest of the way. West Indies won by 8 wickets with 22 balls to spare.

Hope scored an unbeaten 42 off 24 balls with four sixes and one four. Shimron Hetmyer scored an unbeaten 31 off 17 balls with four fours and a six. Romario Shepherd was Man of the Match, Shai Hope was Man of the Series.
