The risk for tourists of becoming victims of violent crime in South Africa is often greatly exaggerated. Nevertheless, the risk is increasing in some regions. Our author lives on site and enlightens.
Can we stroll around the streets of Cape Town? Are we still sure? Friends from Germany who recently vacationed in the Cape asked me. After their arrival, they were deeply unsettled, because the owner of their guest house had urgently warned them about the many criminals who regularly attack tourists, steal mobile phones, tear jewelry chains from their necks and sometimes stab them.
