South African rapper Costa Titch died on Saturday night in full concert. The 27-year-old artist collapsed while performing at the Ultra SA festival in South Africa outside Johannesburg. Police confirmed yesterday that they had opened an investigation after the death of Costa Tsobanoglou, Titch’s real name, known for his song ‘Big Flexa’, which had 45 million views on YouTube.

The Police assured that the causes of the death of the young musician, a very prominent figure of rap in his country, are not known at the moment. In the videos captured during the concert and broadcast on the networks, the rapper is seen falling on stage, in what appears to be a trip. He continues to sing, but a little further on he collapses again and his companions rush to help him to no avail.

The family, “devastated”

“It is with deep sorrow that we are forced to acknowledge his passing,” the musician’s family said in a statement. “The Tsobanoglou family is grateful for the love and support you have given our son, and may you continue to lift him up even in spirit. Please keep us in his prayers. As a family, we are facing a difficult time as we try to make sense of what has happened to us and ask that we be given the time and space to collect ourselves.” “We are devastated by the loss of beloved artist Costa Titch, who tragically passed away,” said Ultra SA festival officials.

“Costa was a galvanizing voice on the South African music scene – a rapper, dancer, songwriter, collaborator and a talented friend of the festival. Our deepest thoughts and our most sincere condolences to his family, his friends and our entire community,” the event organizers said.
