The armed forces of South Korea and the United States have begun joint air exercises involving F-18 and F-35 aircraft.

As reported by Day.Az with reference to TASS, this was reported by the Yonhap agency.

The purpose of the maneuvers, according to him, is to strengthen cooperation and joint combat capabilities, taking into account the threat that, in their opinion, comes from the DPRK.

The drills will last until August 8 and will be held at Suwon Air Base, south of Seoul. The South Korean side will also deploy F-16, FA-50, KA-1 and F-15K aircraft.

The exercises include fighter maneuvers, air support, air countermeasures and air defense to enhance the interoperability of various types of allied air assets.

The F-18s were deployed to the Suwon base earlier in July. Commenting on the move, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said the F-18s were designed to “strike the enemy’s main bases and military command using a guided bomb during a special operation.” However, Pyongyang noted that the US claims that there has been no change in its policy toward the DPRK and that “the door to consultations with the DPRK remains open.”
