/ The South Korean national team qualified for the semi-finals of the Asian Championship after defeating its Australian counterpart 2-1, in the 2023 Asian Football Cup currently taking place in Qatar.

The match, which was led by the Omani international referee Ahmed Al-Kaf, took place at Al Janoub Stadium in the Qatari city of Al Wakrah, at 6:30 pm on Friday.

The first half ended with Australia leading by one goal to nil, scored by Craig Goodwin in the 42nd minute.

The score remained the same in the second half until the end of the regular time of the match, when the South Korean team snatched the equalizer in the dying moments of the 90+6 minute from a penalty kick successfully executed by Hwang Hee-chan, forcing Australia to play two extra halves. South Korea scored the second goal in the 104th minute through Son, and in the 105+4 minute the match witnessed the expulsion of the Australian player Home Aidan O’Neill for deliberately playing dangerously against his Korean opponent, so the Australians completed the second extra half with ten players.
