Tension in Asia: South Korea, the US and Japan organize military exercises
South Korea, the United States and Japan held joint naval exercises on Monday in response to North Korean threats, according to Reuters.
South Korea’s 7,600-ton Aegis destroyer Yulgok Yi I, the American guided-missile destroyer Benfold and the Japanese destroyer Atago, also equipped with Aegis radar systems, are taking part in the exercises in international waters between Korea and Japan.
In response, North Korean authorities accused Washington of intensifying “nuclear blackmail” through military exercises in Asia.
North Korea recently tested a new solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
