The Republic of Korea team at the Paris Olympics was incorrectly announced, when the boat with South Korean athletes passed along the Seine, the announcers used the name of another country – the DPRK. South Korean authorities are seeking a meeting with the head of the IOC Thomas Bach.

As reported by Day.Az, this was reported by the South Korean agency Yonhap.

The boat with the South Korean athletes was the 48th in the parade. The French and English speakers announced “The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea” when they appeared. At the same time, the English text information that appeared on the screen was correct – about the Republic of Korea. There was no mistake when the athletes from the DPRK, whose boat was the 153rd in the parade, appeared.

The Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said it was seeking a meeting with IOC President Thomas Bach over the incident. Vice Minister Jang Mi-ran was present at the ceremony and asked for the conversation.

Seoul may also express its displeasure to Paris. “We have also asked the Foreign Ministry to convey a serious complaint to France at the government level,” the South Korean Sports Ministry said. The Korean National Olympic Committee has asked the French organizers not to make similar mistakes in the future.
