During a meeting in Cuzco (Peru) with the representative of the Chamber of Advisors to the Andean Parliament, Abdelkader Salama, Mr. Pacheco, who was unanimously elected on Friday as the new president of this parliamentary entity, affirmed that Morocco, through its positioning and its status as a leader in promoting South-South cooperation, stands as a safe gateway to the African continent for the Andean countries in particular and Latin America in general, the Chamber of Advisors said in a press release.

The President of the Andean Parliament praised, on this occasion, the pioneering role played by the Moroccan Parliament in strengthening relations with the countries of the Andean community, expressing his pride in the presence of Moroccan parliamentarians at the work of the General Assembly of the Andean Parliament, notes the same source.

This presence, he said, is of great importance as it allowed to learn about Morocco’s pioneering experience in the fields of renewable energy and water policy, as well as the national immigration and asylum strategy aimed at the integration of migrants and the management of issues related to migration.

For his part, Mr. Salama praised the noble positions and sentiments expressed by Mr. Pacheco towards the Kingdom and its leadership under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, highlighting the distinguished relations uniting the Moroccan and Andean parliaments.

The Moroccan parliamentarian reaffirmed, by the same token, the determination of all the components of the two Chambers to translate the distinguished path of relations between the Moroccan legislative institution and its Andean counterpart into action plans and a roadmap with clear mechanisms and objectives.

In her presentation on the highlights of her term, the outgoing President of the Andean Parliament, Cristina Hidalgo, expressed her great pride in participating in the Parliamentary Conference on South-South Cooperation and the Marrakech Parliamentary Economic Forum for the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf Region, two events organized by the Chamber of Advisors under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, emphasizing the importance of these two initiatives to open spaces for dialogue between Latin American, Arab and African parliaments.

The Moroccan and Andean parliaments signed, in July 2018 at the headquarters of the House of Councilors, a memorandum of understanding aimed at establishing channels of parliamentary communication and interaction through the exchange of visits, experiences, information and documents.

Under this memorandum of understanding, the Moroccan parliament benefits from the status of advanced partner with this parliamentary organization.

The Andean Community Parliament is a parliamentary organization created in 1979 with the aim of harmonizing legislation and accelerating integration among the member countries of this group. The organization is composed of 25 elected members, five parliamentarians from each country (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Chile).
