Speaking at the opening of the second edition of the Marrakech Economic Parliamentary Forum for the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf region, initiated by the Chamber of Advisors and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (APM), Ms. Garcia highlighted the Atlantic initiative launched by the Sovereign with a view to promoting access for the Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean.

On the occasion of this two-day event, organized under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, the parliamentarian welcomed the Kingdom’s desire to lay the foundations for a “fruitful and creative” South-South cooperation, reviewing several aspects of cooperation between the Moroccan and Central American Parliaments since 2015, which has led to several “valuable” initiatives, including the creation of the Congress of Afro-Latin American Parliamentary Unions (AFROLAC).

In this context, Ms. Garcia praised Morocco’s “active” role as an observer member of PARLACEN, noting that beyond political support, Morocco’s role is also manifested through the forum on climate change, as well as the recent support and active participation of the Kingdom in the regional meeting of women from political parties in Central America and the Caribbean.

And to specify that PARLACEN is counting on the support of Morocco for the organization of a forum on migration, taking into account the experience and good practices of the Kingdom in this area and its status as a transit and reception country for migration and a gateway to Africa and Europe.

Regarding renewable energies, Ms. Garcia indicated that given the experience accumulated by Morocco in this area, PARLACEN has decided to seek the “precious” support of the Kingdom through the appointment of an expert in the field for the benefit of the countries of the bloc.

The Marrakech Parliamentary Economic Forum for the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf Region, whose constitutive session took place in December 2022 in the Ochre City, represents a favorable opportunity for parliamentarians and founding partners of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean to interact with political and economic actors from the public and private sectors, as well as with academia and civil society.

This second edition deals with two main themes, namely “The transition to green energy” and “Supporting entrepreneurship and small and medium-sized enterprises in this process”.
