BOLZANO. In view of the increasingly extreme weather events, which have occurred not only in South Tyrol, the Presidency of the College of Builders addressed the effects of climate change on infrastructure in its last session. Another topic was the recently approved provincial adjustment budget. “As a construction sector, we are aware of the responsibility we have with respect to the issue of climate change. This is also why the commitment to research that is already being made is important. Our common goal is reduce greenhouse gas emissions. As a College we have already launched several initiatives in this regard, also together with our partners”, summarizes the President of the College of Builders, Christian Egartner.

Due to the increasing frequency of extreme weather events, the Presidency is convinced that it is necessary investing in resilient infrastructure. The recently approved provincial adjustment budget also contains chapters that go in this direction. With regard to the budget, however, the Presidency Council emphasizes that a balance must be found between investments and current expenditure.

“Climate change and demographic change with the resulting shortage of qualified workers require a lean public administration capable of responding, in collaboration with companies, effectively and simply to the challenges” continues Egartner. “Synergy is needed. In order to best prepare for the future, all partners must work together constructively and purposefully to find solutions. However, we must also have the courage to make difficult and probably initially unpopular decisions. Good cooperation between public administration and companies will help us to jointly master the challenges that await us in the future. We construction companies are ready to make our contribution in any case”, he concludes. Egartner.
