Southeast Australia hit by earthquake

A 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck southeast Australia. According to media reports, numerous people ran into the streets in the second largest Australian city of Melbourne on Wednesday morning (local time). The quake that occurred east of Melbourne could be felt hundreds of kilometers further. According to the USGS earthquake monitoring station, the quake had a magnitude of 5.8 and occurred at a depth of ten kilometers.

Pictures show debris in Melbourne’s shopping mile

The online media featured images of Melbourne’s popular shopping street around Chapel Street, which was littered with debris. The emergency services announced that they had received numerous calls for help and that they were working with fire and rescue workers. Some calls even came from the city of Dubbo, around 700 kilometers from the epicenter.
