The passage of the extratropical cyclone through Rio Grande do Sul, which brought hail and gusts of wind with it, caused considerable damage in the state. On Wednesday the 12th there were records of damaged houses and the suspension of public and private schools in several areas.

According to the alerts coming from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), during the afternoon there were recorded volumes of rain greater than 60 millimeters per hour and winds that exceeded 100 kilometers per hour. In addition, there were large amounts of hail throughout the area of Rio Grande do Sul and along the coast of Santa Catarina.

The municipal coordinators of Civil Defense and Protection have already reported some damage related to hail, windstorms and floods. Teams from both states continue to work in support of the affected communities.

According to the Rio Grande do Sul Civil Defense bulletin, the advice is for people to protect themselves, seek information and follow the guidelines — especially those who live in risk areas, such as near rivers and on slopes.

Due to the formation of the extratropical cyclone, the Navy warned that waves up to 4.5 meters high could be recorded.
Also according to Inmet, the red alert, the highest on the scale, should only end in the early afternoon of this Thursday, 13. However, there are possibilities for the permanence of preventive measures in the coming days.
