Southgate On Dropping Rashford Sancho England Squad

by time news

Coach Gareth Southgate has explained why Manchester United strikers Jaden Sancho and Marcus Rashford have been left out of the England squad for this month’s friendly. Southgate have dropped these players from the 25 – man squad for the matches against Switzerland and Ivory Coast.

Apart from these two Manchester United players, Manchester City full back Kyle Walker has also been left out of the squad. Meanwhile, U21 team captain Mark Guyehik has been named in the senior team for the first time. Southgate’s response comes amid questions about Sancho, who has scored two goals and three assists in the last six Premier League games.

“In our opinion, there are better forwards in the squad than in the squad. Jaden’s performance has improved over the last few weeks, but there is a lot of competition for a position in the area where the player is playing.” Southgate answered a question about Sancho. He also talked about Rashford.

“The player is in the same position as everyone else about Marcus. Whether he’s in the squad or not, they need to perform better next time. This is not a good time for the player, nor is he in the best form. We still have a lot of time. We know what the player can give the team.” He clarified.

England will face Switzerland on March 26 and then Ivory Coast on March 29. Both matches are at Wembley.
