jpnn.comJAKARTA – The England National Team beat the Netherlands 2-1 in the EURO 2024 semifinal match at Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund, Germany, Wednesday local time or Thursday WIB.

This result means England will advance to the final and will face Spain who first beat France with a score of 2-1 in the semifinals.

England manager Gareth Southgate said his team displayed a more modern game when they defeated the Netherlands. He said he was pleased with the quality of the England team’s play in the match.

“I imagine it will be a long time, if ever, that an England team has had 60 per cent possession against a Dutch team. So it shows a more modern England,” Southgate said.

Xavi Simons’ brilliant strike opened the scoring for the Netherlands in the 7th minute, before Harry Kane equalized from the penalty spot in the 18th minute.

The match almost went into extra time. However, Southgate’s late substitution of Ollie Watkins allowed the Three Lions to finish the match in normal time, after the Aston Villa striker scored the winner in the 90th minute.

Southgate came in for criticism after his side needed late equalisers against Slovakia and Switzerland to reach the last four.

However, in four major tournaments, Southgate has now led his team to two finals (EURO 2020 and EURO 2024), one semi-final (2018 World Cup) and one quarter-final (2022 World Cup).

England manager Gareth Southgate said his team played more modernly when they beat the Netherlands in the EURO 2024 semi-finals.
