Dion Rudakubana Details Growing Fear of Brother Amid Family Tensions

A shift in family dynamics following a diagnosis led to escalating tension and physical altercations, according to testimony given by Dion Rudakubana. The account, revealed during an ongoing inquiry, highlights a concerning pattern of behavior and a brother’s deteriorating emotional state. Rudakubana described becoming “increasingly wary” of his sibling, identified only as AR, as his own health challenges required increased parental attention.

Early Shifts in Family Attention

Rudakubana was diagnosed with a neuromuscular disorder at age 12, resulting in his reliance on a wheelchair and a corresponding increase in support from his parents. This change in focus, he explained, created friction with his brother. “Up until that age he got more attention than I did because he was younger than me, so there was a change in focus around that time,” Rudakubana stated. He acknowledged that AR appeared to resent this shift in parental attention.

Deteriorating Mood and Violent Outbursts

Following a relocation to Southport, Rudakubana observed a marked decline in his brother’s mood, particularly after AR transitioned from primary school to Range High School in Formby. This period was characterized by increasing despondency and episodes of what Rudakubana described as “violent outbursts.”

When asked if he feared physical harm, Rudakubana responded, “His frustration was a result of his lower mood…but yeah I was concerned because he was bigger…physically larger and it would hurt more.” He confirmed that AR regularly hit him, leading to a growing sense of apprehension.

Escalating Physical Violence and Limited Incidents with Parents

Rudakubana stated he did not recall any instances of AR exhibiting violence towards their parents before his expulsion from Range High School in 2019. The testimony paints a picture of a brother struggling with internal turmoil, manifesting in aggression directed specifically towards Rudakubana.

The inquiry continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the family’s experiences, seeking to understand the factors contributing to the escalating tensions and ultimately, AR’s expulsion.
