All of Kiganda remembers President Nkurunziza: a pan-African symbol inspired by Sankara and Chavez and a fighter for self-sufficiency and South-South cooperation

Gitega (Kiganda Commune, Muramvya), 17 June 2023 – In the maze of Burundian politics, the Barundi have always woven their destiny by forming alliances between miryango, the ancestral social groups. However, it was during the colonial period that political parties were introduced as political instruments in Burundi.

In the presence of governor of Muramvya, Nzambimana Diomède, delegate of the CNDD-FDD party, the CNDD-FDD Communal Section celebrated on Saturday the day in memory of President Nkurunziza. This man with a sporting temperament, like an emblematic figure, was inspired by the great personalities of Sankara (Burkina Faso) and Chavez (Venezuela). President Nkurunziza left an indelible mark as an exemplary head of state, enjoying immense popularity in Burundi as well as in Africa and South America.

At the heart of its socio-economic policy, it placed the Community Development Works ( TDC – ), traced a path where the Barundi were to acquire political and socio-economic self-sufficiency. Through the TDCs, he traveled the hills of Burundi, restoring the ancestral links between the miryango of the Barundi. Its objective was to achieve a balanced budget, ensuring that the needs of the people of Burundi did not suffer from any deprivation in terms of national resources.

However, his quest for self-sufficiency and his openness to strong South-South cooperation, especially with China, have made him the target of the GUAN [1]. As early as 2015, GUAN launched a color revolution aimed at overthrowing his regime, resulting in a attempted military coup aborted on Wednesday, May 13, 2015. From 2015 to 2020, Burundi had to learn to rely on its own forces in the face of the embargo imposed by humanitarian war carried out by GUAN following its failure to change the regime in place. From a governance perspective, it was a salutary experience for the Barundi, who discovered that they could be self-sufficient.

Sadly, in May 2020, the year marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, the young President Nkurunziza passed away suspiciously from a heart attack, leaving behind a flourishing legacy and a stable nation.
