State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu said that every liter of bottled soybean oil will be sold at 163 taka at the retail level from Sunday (March 3). He said that the market of daily commodities will be under control even outside the month of Ramadan.

The Minister of State for Commerce said this to reporters after the event organized by the ‘Association of Grassroots Women Entrepreneurs Bangladesh’ at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center on Saturday (March 2).

He said that the monitoring of edible oil has started since Friday. Teams are monitoring all the millgates since this morning. A letter has already been sent to them regarding how much goods they have imported after the tariff cuts and how much time they have used to build buffer stocks. I think from tomorrow the bottled soybean oil will be sold at Rs 163 per liter at the retail level. Open soybean oil will be sold at Tk 149 per liter.

The Minister of State for Commerce said, “In the bilateral meeting, the Commerce Minister of India has assured to exempt onions for us. He ordered onion discount while sitting there. We received that letter yesterday. 50,000 tonnes of onions will start arriving from India this week.

He said, our target is that consumers should not have to buy products at higher prices during Ramadan. I have sent a letter to reduce the VAT-tax on oil, which will have an impact during Ramadan. There are about 10 types of dates. I have given one month to the traders to reduce the prices. The price of bagged Zaydi dates will be decided tomorrow. Hopefully, the price will come down after that. That is, the maximum retail and wholesale prices will be determined from this week. It will reduce the price.

The state minister said, we will solve the problems of traders, but we will not listen to any excuses. There is no possibility of late discount on any daily goods during Ramadan without valid reason. Our target is not only Ramadan, but even after the month of Ramadan, the daily market will remain normal. Prime Minister’s directives – Common people will not be held hostage by any businessman or group. 1 crore people will get some daily commodities including oil and sugar from TCB at subsidized price.
