S&P 500 and NASDAQ posted worst weekly performance since pandemic began

The US S&P 500 and NASDAQ fell 5.7% and 7.55% in a week. The dynamics became the worst since March 2020, reports Reuters. The Dow Jones lost 5.1% in a week.

American indices at the end of trading on Friday:

  • NASDAQ – 13,768.92 points (-2.72% on the day);
  • S&P 500 — 4397,94 (-1,89%);
  • Dow Jones — 34 265,37 (-1,3%).

The S&P 500 and NASDAQ were impacted by a nearly 22% drop in Netflix shares amid the release of fourth-quarter and full-year 2021 earnings. Investors were disappointed by the slowdown in the number of new users of the service. In addition, US indices are affected by the expectation of the Fed meeting next week, where monetary policy may be tightened.

The Russian stock market also ended Friday and the week with a fall. Over the week, the Moscow Exchange and RTS indices fell by 4.4-5.7%, the dollar rose by 1.08 rubles. This happened under the pressure of the negative dynamics of external sites and oil.
