Police S.P. And the Chennai High Court has ordered the Tamil Nadu DGP to set up commission-led committees.

In the ongoing case of the Kanchipuram studio and tennis club, members of their club have been accused of consuming liquor purchased from Tasmac liquor stores and forcing government officials and police to obtain licenses for the same.

When the case came up for hearing before Judge SM Subramaniam, the government said that drinking in public places was prohibited and the police were empowered to take action against them. Later, Judge SM Subramaniam, naming the studio and tennis club, deviated from that purpose, refusing to order that the place be used for other activities and not to be forced to obtain a license for the bar.

Further, the judge noted in the order that the registry has the power to cancel its registration if the organizations registered under the Associations Act deviate from its registration purpose. Police S.P. will bring in experienced people to monitor and take action against any illegal activities taking place in registered clubs, associations, spas, recreation centers and massage centers. He has directed the Tamil Nadu DGP to set up special committees at the district level headed by the Commissioners of Police and at the municipal level.

He adjourned the case till January 24 after ordering the Tamil Nadu DGP to issue appropriate instructions to all police stations across the state within four weeks to ensure that the registered associations located in all local bodies in Tamil Nadu are operating in accordance with the rules and take action in case of failure.
