(LaPresse) – NASA’s Orion capsule returned from its mission around the Moon landing in the Pacific off the coast of Mexico west of Baja California after a 25-day test flight. The mission is expected to pave the way for astronauts on the program’s next lunar flyby, set for 2024.
A Navy ship quickly moved in to recover the spacecraft and its silent occupants: three test dummies rigged with vibration sensors and radiation monitors. NASA needed a successful splashdown to stay on track for Orion’s next flight around the moon, currently scheduled for 2024. Four astronauts are expected to make the trip. A two-person lunar landing is planned for 2025.
