SpaceX Sets Record with Fourth Launch in a Week, Sending Up Starlink Mission

SpaceX is showing no signs of slowing down as it continues to break records for satellite launches. The company successfully completed its fourth launch in just over a week, sending up another Starlink mission from the Space Coast.

The Falcon 9 rocket carrying 22 of SpaceX’s internet satellites lifted off early Friday morning from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station’s Space Launch Complex 40. The launch had been delayed due to weather issues the previous day.

The first-stage booster, which flew for the ninth time, made its recovery landing on the droneship named “Just Read the Instructions” in the Atlantic. This successful landing further demonstrates SpaceX’s commitment to reusable rocket technology.

This rapid launch turnaround is becoming a common occurrence for SpaceX at Cape Canaveral. Earlier this month, the company set a new record with three launches in just over three days. Since then, SpaceX has launched an impressive seven missions from the Space Coast in just over eight days. In addition, the company successfully conducted a launch from California’s Vandenburg Space Force Base this week.

With this latest mission, SpaceX has now completed 31 launches from Canaveral’s SLC-40 in 2023. The company has also conducted eight launches from the neighboring Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39-A. Overall, this marks the 41st Space Coast launch of the year, with all but two coming from SpaceX. Elon Musk’s company has now completed a total of 55 launches from its Florida and California operations.

The successful launch also brings SpaceX closer to fulfilling its ambitious goal of conducting 100 orbital missions in a year. SpaceX had previously set a record of nine launches in a single month, achieved in May this year. If the current launch pace continues, August has the potential to equal or surpass that number.

In terms of overall accomplishments, this latest launch marks the 254th successful orbital flight since SpaceX’s first Falcon 1 launch in 2008. It is also the 216th recovery and 189th reflight of a booster among SpaceX’s Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets.

SpaceX’s continued success in rapidly launching satellites and landing boosters is a testament to the company’s technological advancements and commitment to revolutionizing space exploration. As SpaceX continues to break records and push the boundaries of what is possible in spaceflight, the future of space exploration looks brighter than ever.
