SpaceX is scheduled to launch 29 Starlink satellites on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from Florida’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The flight marks the 100th Falcon 9 mission of the year and features a record-breaking booster reuse.
Starlink launches may have become commonplace, but the upcoming cadence from Florida’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station highlights an operational tempo. The Falcon 9 rocket is scheduled to lift off during a four-hour window opening at 1:49 a.m. EDT (0549 GMT). This flight is the 100th Falcon 9 mission of 2026, underscoring the vehicle’s position as the busiest rocket in operation today. Last year, it flew 165 missions — more than all of the world’s other orbital rockets combined. And all 165 of those flights were fully successful.
Booster B1067 Sets a 37th Flight Record
Extensive first-stage reuse is the Falcon 9’s secret sauce, making it cheaper and more efficient to fly than its competitors. Tuesday’s mission relies on a booster designated B1067, marking a record-breaking 37th mission for this rocket’s first stage. Other boosters in the active fleet also boast heavy reuse logs, with B1077 and B1078 with 30, B1069 with 32, B1063 with 34 and B1071 with 35. Competitors are racing to catch up, and some are making strides, with two different Chinese rockets having aced landings during orbital missions in the past six weeks, though neither has made it back to the pad for a second flight.
If all goes according to plan on Tuesday morning, the Falcon 9 will return to Earth for recovery and yet more reuse. About 8.5 minutes after liftoff, the booster will land on the drone ship A Shortfall of Gravitas,
which will be stationed in the Atlantic Ocean. Meanwhile, the rocket’s upper stage will haul the 29 Starlink satellites to low Earth orbit, deploying them there 61.5 minutes after launch. Tuesday’s liftoff will be the 77th of 2026 devoted to building out Starlink, by far the largest satellite constellation ever assembled, which currently consists of more than 11,000 operational spacecraft.
Rapid Cadence and Global Satellite Traffic
The upcoming launch follows a mid-August stretch that included a world-record turnaround. On Saturday evening, August 15, SpaceX launched two Falcon 9 rockets just a little over 38 minutes apart. The first launch was at 9:12 p.m. EDT from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, while the other occurred at 9:50 p.m. EDT from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, according to SpaceX. The first launch involved the Globalstar 2-R Launch 1 putting a set of eight telecommunications satellites into orbit, while the second launch was code-named the USSF-366 mission for the US Space Force. The back-to-back blast-offs mark the company’s shortest period between two launches to date, beating their previous record, achieved in August 2024, by an impressive 27 minutes.

As per NextSpaceFlight, the company has launched 709 missions in total, including 99 so far in 2026 alone. Satellites launched by these missions are indispensable for everyday life in the 21st century, including telecommunications, navigation, banking, weather forecasting, scientific research, and national security. It’s estimated that the number of satellites has more than doubled in less than a decade, with over 18,000 satellites in orbit at the moment. While advances like Starlink mean that vast swathes of the world, including far-flung regions of Africa and the Amazon rainforest, can now have a reliable internet connection, astronomers have frequently warned that this satellite traffic will inevitably hamper their efforts to observe space, all while increasing pollution and the risk of falling debris. Scientists estimate there’s roughly a 10 percent chance that one or more casualties will occur over the next decade.
The Road Ahead for Falcon and Starship
SpaceX plans to take reuse to even higher levels with its next-generation megarocket, Starship, which is designed to be completely and rapidly reusable, with each vehicle capable of flying multiple times per day, according to SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk. The Falcon 9 and its cousin the Falcon Heavy are only partially reusable and have expendable upper stages. The company has also launched one Falcon Heavy mission and two suborbital Starship test flights this year, with Starship trying to go orbital for the first time on its next liftoff, which is expected in early to mid-September.
