Spain: Algerian smuggler arrested for human trafficking

Madrid – The Spanish National Police announced on Thursday the arrest of an Algerian smuggler, “member of a network specializing in human trafficking between Africa and the province of Murcia.”

The individual, aged 20, is believed to be responsible for the illegal entry of 12 illegal migrants, including three minors, to the coast of Murcia on board an inflatable boat, the Spanish police said in a statement.

The suspect, of Algerian nationality, was part of a criminal organisation responsible for recruiting nationals from the African continent to bring them to Spain irregularly, using boats that did not comply with security measures, the police explained.

The constant struggle of the Provincial Brigade of Foreigners and Borders, part of the Higher Police Station of the Region of Murcia, has led to the arrest of 77 members active in human trafficking networks, 60 of whom are currently in prison, adds the same source.
